5th China-U.S. Energy Efficiency Forum

On June 11th, the 5th China-U.S. Energy Efficiency Forum was held at Presidential Hotel in Beijing. More than 200 representatives from PRC National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MOHURD), U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), U.S.-China Energy Cooperation Program (ECP) and other organizations and industrial associations related to energy from China and America participated in the forum. Attendees introduced the up-to-date progress of China- U.S. Energy Efficiency Action Plan, and had an in-depth discussion over issues related to Building Energy Efficiency, Industrial Energy Efficiency promotion and Energy Performance Contracting.

Vice Chairman of PRC National Development and Reform Commission, Mr. Xie Zhenhua, and Assistant Secretary of Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy from U.S. Department of Energy, Dr. David Danielson attended the forum and gave opening remarks. Mr. Xie pointed out in his speech that increasing the energy efficiency and achieving green low carbon development are the significant measures to break the limitations in terms of resources and environment, and tackle the climate change effectively. They are also the inevitable requirements for ensuring the energy resource security and promoting sustainable development of economy. Later, both sides witnessed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing Ceremony between Chinese and American relevant organizations and corporations. Co-Chair of ECP’s Board of Directors, Mr. Will Latta also attended the ceremony and signed MOU.

The China-U.S. Energy Efficiency Forum is the fruit of Sino-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue and a specific measure in China-U.S. Energy Efficiency Action Plan under U.S.-China Ten-Year Framework for Cooperation on Energy and Environment. China and America take turn to host the forum every year and it serves as an important platform for energy efficiency cooperation between the two countries.
