U.S.-China (Zhejiang) Gas Industry Cooperation Workshop

The U.S.-China (Zhejiang) Gas Industry Cooperation Workshop was successfully heldon September 3, 2019 in Hangzhou City of Zhejiang Province. This workshop was co-hosted by the National Energy Administration (NEA), U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), as well as the U.S.-China Energy Cooperation Program (ECP). It received a great support from the Zhejiang Provincial Energy Bureau and the U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai. The Hangzhou workshop is the sixth workshop of the “U.S.-China Gas Industry Cooperation Workshop Series”, succeeding previous workshops in Beijing, Ordos, Guangzhou, and Suzhou and Dalian.

Except the discussions surrounded the theme of U.S.-China natural gastrade and pricing, the workshop covered the natural gas market in Yangtze River region and regional connectivity. Over 120 delegates, including representatives from U.S. and China government agencies, industry leaders, and business representatives actively participated in the Hangzhou workshop. Among these organizations were the National Energy Administration, Zhejiang Provincial Energy Bureau, Anhui Provincial Energy Bureau, U.S. Trade and Development Agency, U.S. Foreign Commercial Service in China, U.S. Department of Energy China Office, U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai, U.S. Consulate General in Chengdu,U.S. Consulate General in Wuhan, U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou, and U.S.Consulate General in Shenyang. It also received representatives from the following U.S. companies: Cheniere Energy, ConocoPhillips, Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP, Caterpillar, Emerson, Altec, IronRock Energy, U.S.-China Green Fund, ExxonMobil, Latham & Watkins LLP, Tellurian LNG, Venture Global, NextDecadeLNG, and S&P Global. As well, delegates from over 50 Chinese companies, including, Sinopec, PetroChina, CNOOC, SinoChem, Zhejiang Energy Group, AnhuiProvincial Energy Group, China Gezhouba Group, Beijing Energy Group, ShanghaiGas and others were present at the workshop as well.

On September4, 2019, U.S. and Chinese guests visited Zhejiang Provincial Natural Gas PipelineStation (Xiaoshan). Accompanied by Zhejiang Energy staffs, participants witnessed the natural gas pipeline station, emergency system and safety monitoring system. This site visiting successfully concluded the U.S.-China (Zhejiang) Gas Industry Cooperation Workshop.

The Hangzhouworkshop received optimism and positive feedbacks through the support of ECPmember companies. It also extended the platform of extensive engagement and communications in the U.S.-China gas industry while actively promoting the success of energy transformation and natural gas development in the Zhejiang province and on a greater scale, Yangtze River region.
