U.S.-China (Shandong) Gas Industry Workshop

The U.S.-China (Shandong) Gas Industry Cooperation Workshop was successfully held on November 14, 2019 in Qingdao City of Shandong Province. This workshop was co-hosted by the National Energy Administration (NEA), U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), as well as the U.S.-China Energy Cooperation Program (ECP). It received a great support from the Shandong Provincial Energy Bureau, Qingdao Development and Reform Commission and Embassy of the United States of America. The Qingdao workshop is the seventh workshop of the “U.S.-China Gas Industry Cooperation Workshop Series”, succeeding previous workshops in Beijing, Ordos, Guangzhou, Suzhou, and Dalian and Hangzhou.

Shandong Province is an economic and populous province, and natural gas consumption is rising year by year. Since 2016, the average annual growth rate of natural gas consumption in Shandong Province has exceeded 25%, and the consumption in 2018 has exceeded 16 billion cubic meters. Except the introduction of U.S. and China natural gas development situation and Shandong natural gas development situation, the workshop covered the shale gas exploration and development, the high-sulfur gas field technology, the smart pipeline network, the smart LNG receiving terminals, the small-scale LNG liquefaction technology, the distributed energy application, and blockchain applications. Over 120 delegates, including representatives from U.S. and China government agencies, industry leaders, and business representatives participated in the Qingdao workshop. Among these organizations were the National Energy Administration, Shandong Provincial Energy Bureau, Qingdao Development and Reform Commission, U.S. Trade and Development Agency, Embassy of the United States of America, U.S. Department of Energy China Office, U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai. It also received representatives from the following U.S. companies: Cheniere Energy, Caterpillar, Emerson, Altec, IronRock Energy, as well as the delegates from over 90 Chinese representatives from Sinopec, PetroChina, CNOOC, SinoChem, State Development & Investment Corp., Ltd, Shandong Oil and Gas Corporation, Shandong Natural Gas Pipeline Co., Ltd, Towngas Group, Qingdao Energy Group and others were present at the workshop. On November 15, 2019, U.S. and Chinese delegations visited Sinopec Shandong LNG receiving terminal in Dongjiakou Port. Qingdao LNG receiving terminal of Shandong LNG project is the first Sinopec LNG receiving terminal in China.
