From April 18 to 21, 2023, in collaboration with the Department of Commerce of Shandong Province, ECP invited and organized some leading energy and technology companies to attend a four-day business outreach trip program with a focus on energy transition and low-carbon green development cooperation.  Participated energy business representatives from Baker Hughes, ConocoPhillips, Eaton, Howden, AspenTech, Bureau Veritas, GE, and Caterpillar visited four stops, Jinan, Zibo, Dongying, and Binzhou cities in Shandong Province.

ECP has a long-standing cooperation history with Shandong Province, with a solid foundation of partnership. Together with the Ministry of Commerce of China(MOFCOM), the Ministry of Housing and -Urban-Rural Development of the People’s Republic of China(MOHURD), the National Energy Administration(NEA), the Department of Commerce of Shandong Province, and the Department of Development and Reform of Shandong Province, ECP has been organizing well-known international energy companies to conduct feasibility studies on energy business cooperation, ecological city construction, and demonstration work in Shandong Province for years. They have also participated in supporting international energy conferences in Yantai, Qingdao, and Zibo while promoting the construction and development of energy cooperation demonstration parks. In the current background of new international cooperation, under the “double carbon” target, ECP hopes to seize new opportunities for cooperation in the energy low-carbon transaction and high-quality green development in Shandong Province through this type of business outreach trips. They aim to implement practical cooperation of energy foreign enterprises further to land in Shandong Province, participate in supporting the double carbon promotion work of energy and related important industries in Shandong Province, and help the overall transformation and low-carbon and high-quality green development of the energy industry in Shandong Province.

The ECP delegation visited Jinan first, where they participated in a green energy cooperation focus roundtable and shared views with the leaders from relevant government departments, including the Shandong Energy Bureau, Shandong Department of Commerce, and the municipal governments representatives from Jinan, Zibo, Zaozhuang, and Binzhou, as well as leading energy and chemical enterprises in Shandong Province. Additionally, the ECP delegation also visited and learned about the development of the Shandong Energy Internet Industry Cluster Base in the Central District of Jinan City.  And the delegation met with Jinan city government agencies officials and local energy companies executives, shared and discussed their insights and views on smart energy, smart grid, distributed energy, energy Internet industry summit, and industry alliance and etc.

The ECP delegation visited Zibo as the second stop, where they visited the Sinopec Qilu Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) project. This carbon reduction and sequestration technology is an essential component of China's national carbon-neutral action plan and will help achieve the "double carbon" goal. The project is the current largest CCUS demonstration base in China, as well as it is first million-ton CCUS project in China. This project officially started operation in August 2022, which becomes the milestone of the beginning of the middle scale CCUS projects and later stages of CCUS technology demonstration, also moving towards a mature commercial operation stage for CCUS projects in China. The project can reduce one million tons of carbon dioxide annually, equivalent to planting almost 9 million trees. It is significant in establishing an “artificial carbon cycle" model and will provide richer engineering experience and technical data for future large-scale CCUS projects.

The ECP delegation also visited Zibo, Dongying and Binzhou cities and visited local key energy and chemical companies such as Dongyue Group, Jincheng Petrochemical, Sintipec, Lihuayi Group, Haike Group, Kerui Group, Befar Group, Befar New Energy Group etc. The delegation engaged in discussions and exchanged ideas with local governments, industrial parks, and enterprises regarding energy transition, green chemicals, new energy, and hydrogen energy, and explored opportunities for future collaboration.

The Shandong business outreach trip received positive feedback and good cooperation interest from participating delegates.   The participating company representatives expressed their commitment to the Shandong energy market and interest to seize business opportunities during the energy transition process. The participating delegates also expressed their interest to deepen further exchange and discussion on cooperation and strengthen ties in the Shandong energy market. ECP also aims to deepen the cooperation discussion on green and low-carbon cooperation in the field of energy and chemical industry.
